Scroll depth & reading time

Every page gets two numbers on the Engagement card: how far people got on average, and how long they stayed with it. Select a page and its scroll map opens, ten stacked bands that fade as readers drop away, with a marker at the depth where half have gone.

Buyers against everyone else

Buyers are measured up to the moment they paid, and set against visitors who never bought. Reading done after a purchase counts for neither side. A wide gap is a good hint that the page helps sell, and the scroll map then shows you where most readers stop.

How it’s measured

  • Reading time runs only with the tab in view, and pauses once a minute passes with no scrolling, clicking, typing or touching. A tab forgotten overnight adds nothing, and one page view adds 30 minutes at most.
  • Scroll depth records the lowest point reached, in percent. If the whole page fits on screen, that’s 100%.
  • Both go out as the visitor leaves the page, so you have nothing to set up and no new cookie to explain. The cost is roughly one more database write for each page view.
